There are several methods of T-shirt printing. Each has its benefits, and preferred for different circumstances. Choosing the right printing method is very important. Screen Printing: An image is transferred to the printed surface by ink, which is pressed through a stenciled screen and treated with a light-sensitive emulsion. Screen printing is one of the best solutions for t shirt printing and is good for high volume printing. Heat Transfer printing: Involves heat transfer to press an existing photo or design on to a fabric. It doesn't last as long as other methods, however is great for small quantities. Heat transfer has a smooth feel when finished but is more likely to crack. Vinyl transfers: Vinyl pressing allows designers to use multiple colours and produce high quality final prints. It isn’t really geared towards mass production, and is actually better suited for single print T-shirts. Sublimation printing: Sublimation is typically used to print on to light coloured synthetic surfaces. T-shirts printed through sublimation don’t feel the same as transfer printed fabrics. This is because the toners used are applied below the surface of the substrate. If you’re going to use sublimation, you should restrict it to synthetic fabric such as polyester and acrylic. |
